Welcome…
You have reached the Mitten Phone Chapter, a virtual
chapter of the Michigan Council Of The Blind and Visually Impaired, an affiliate of the American Council Of the Blind. Our mission is to support independence, quality of life and equality for individuals who are blind and visually impaired through advocacy.
The Mitten Phone Chapter gives our members at large or who are unable to participate in a local chapter a venue to share concerns and to do the work of the state organization, The Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired and the National organization, The American Council of the Blind. We support the mission and activities of our state affiliate and national organization, such as accessible voting machines, accessible absentee voting, and safety with accessible prescription labeling.
We provide support to those who are newly blind and their families as well as to those who are currently members.
We support parents of blind children or blind parents who are raising children. We provide encouragement and include people with other disabilities, where blindness is a part, such as hearing impairments, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, or other disabling conditions.
We are a diverse group of individuals who advocate for the equality of people who are blind and visually impaired. We encourage members to be active in local, state, and national issues impacting the independence, and quality of life for individuals who are blind and visually impaired.
We meet by zoom or phone conference when directed. The meeting schedule can be found by clicking on the meetings and events link.
