{"id":23,"date":"2018-10-10T17:36:28","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T17:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/michiganmittens.net\/?page_id=23"},"modified":"2026-06-17T02:00:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T02:00:29","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/michiganmittens.net\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1>Welcome to the Mitten Phone Chapter<\/h1>\n<p>You have reached the Mitten Phone Chapter, a virtual chapter of the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired, an affiliate of the American Council of the Blind.<\/p>\n<h2>Our Mission<\/h2>\n<p>Our mission is to support independence, quality of life, and equality for individuals who are blind and visually impaired through advocacy.<\/p>\n<h2>Who We Are<\/h2>\n<p>The Mitten Phone Chapter provides a venue for members at large or those unable to participate in a local chapter to share concerns and contribute to the work of the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired and the American Council of the Blind.<\/p>\n<p>We support initiatives such as accessible voting machines, accessible absentee voting, and safety through accessible prescription labeling.<\/p>\n<h2>Support and Inclusion<\/h2>\n<p>We provide support to individuals who are newly blind and their families, as well as current members.<\/p>\n<p>We also support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parents of blind children<\/li>\n<li>Blind parents raising children<\/li>\n<li>Individuals with additional disabilities, including hearing impairments, learning disabilities, and physical disabilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are a diverse group committed to advocating for equality and encouraging participation in local, state, and national issues impacting independence and quality of life.<\/p>\n<h2>Meetings<\/h2>\n<p>We meet via Zoom or phone conference when directed. The meeting schedule can be found on the Meetings and Events page.<\/p>\n<h2>Membership<\/h2>\n<p>Consider becoming a member. Membership dues are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mitten Phone Chapter: $10<\/li>\n<li>MCBVI\/ACB: $10<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are joining MCBVI for the first time, please complete the membership form. Existing members can renew dues online.<\/p>\n<h2>Annual State Convention<\/h2>\n<p>Our Annual State Convention will be held in October 2026 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. See the Meetings and Events page for more information.<\/p>\n<h2>Grant Program<\/h2>\n<p>The Mitten Phone Chapter offers small grants funded through fundraising efforts.
